Tripura Journalists Seek Action Against Deputy Speaker's Remarks; Meets Manik Saha

A delegation of senior journalists met with Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha today to express their concerns over Deputy Speaker Ram Prasad Pal's recent remarks on social media, which they deemed unethical and derogatory towards the press.
Led by editors and senior media professionals like Sanit Debroy, Sanjoy Pal, Pranab Sarkar, Biswendu Bhattacharjee and Subal Dey, the delegation presented a details brief to the Chief Minister, on the Deputy Speaker's comments and urging appropriate action. They emphasized the importance of maintaining respect for the media and upholding democratic values. Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha assured the media representative to looking into the matter.
In response, Deputy Speaker Ram Prasad Pal clarified on social media yesterday night and today evening again that his comments were not directed at journalists as a whole but were a rebuttal to alleged misinformation spread by a particular cable TV journalist. He expressed regret if his remarks had caused offense and reiterated his respect for the journalistic community. However, he also voiced frustration over the issue being escalated to the Chief Minister, suggesting it was politically motivated.

Dr. Saha also acknowledged the media's role in highlighting governmental errors responsibly and pledged to address any legitimate concerns raised by the press. Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha today again appeals and emphasized on the relationship between the media, Government officials and political figures in Tripura, highlighting the need for mutual respect and accountability.
