Veteran CPI (M) leader Dipak Chowdhury breathes his last , mourning in Sabroom

Veteran CPI (M) leader and former subdivisional secretary of the party in Sabroom Dipak Chowdhury (71) breathed his last yesterday in the evening at 7-00 PM in the state’s cancer hospital . He had been suffering from cancer of the pancreas. For the treatment of his critical ailment Dipak Chowdhury had gone to Hyderabad on March 29 but had to return home within a few days as his condition was hopeless . He had been admitted to Agartala’s cancer hospital on April 8 in critical condition and expired at 7-00 PM yesterday . He is survived by his wife Meena Palchowdhury and relatives. Dipak Chowdhury’s mortal remains were brought to the CPI (M) state headquarter yesterday in the evening shortly after his death and all senior party leaders including politburo member and state secretary Jiten Chowdhury , former chief minister Manik Sarkar, former MP and CITU leader Sankar Prasad Datta and all other senior leaders paid their respect to him. This morning the cortege of Dipak Chowdhury was taken to Sabroom where his cremation took place amidst grief and mourning among people.
Sources in the CPI (M) said that Dipak Chowdhury , a lifelong member of the CPI (M) , had played a key role in building the party base brick by brick in Sabroom subdivision alongside late Sunil Chowdhury. His tireless work along with other leaders had ensured CPI (M) victory in Sabroom seat in all 8 assembly polls from 1978 to 2013. In the Assembly polls of 2023 again Dipak Chowdhury had played a key role in the victory of Jiten Chowdhury from the Sabroom seat. He had also been a former member of the CPI (M) state committee. Sources said that Dipak Chowdhury’s death has left a void in the leadership structure of CPI (M) in Sabroom which will be difficult to fulfill.
