In the name of flaunting their reverence to Lord Ram the neo-BJP elements in Kailasahar installed a statue of Lord Ram on the vacant space on an altar where a standing statue of late CPI (M) stalwart Baidyanath Majumder had been demolished in the year 2018 within days of BJP victory in the assembly election. The CPI (M) state secretary Jiten Chowdhury has strongly protested this and demanded reinstallation of the statue of the universally respected Baidyanath Majumder, saying the BJP supporters have actually insulted Lord Ram, an iconic deity worshipped by the Hindus across the world.

Sources from Kailasahar said that a full-size statue of late Baidyanath Majumder had been installed at the Trijunction area under the Chandipur block in the year 2012 but within days of the 2018 assembly polls which BJP had won the unruly BJP supporters had demolished the statue and dumped it in the nearby Manu river. The space of the statue on the altar had remained vacant for many years but on last Friday night, that is on April 11, a gang of BJP miscreants had installed a statue of Lord Ram on the vacant space even though the CPI (M) had long been demanding the reinstallation of the statue of Baidyanath Majumder. The installation of the statue of Lord Ram on the vacant altar has caused a outrage all around.

Responding to this the CPI (M) state secretary and politburo member Jiten Chowdhury stated that the BJP workers and supporters have actually insulted Lord Ram by installing his statue on the space vacated by the removal of the statue of Baidyanath Majumder. “Shortly after coming to power the BJP went on a frenzy of iconoclasm and destroyed statues of great leaders like Lenin, Marx and others all over the state ; such shameful things were never done by any other party in the history of the state” said Jiten . He demanded that the state government arrange for reinstallation of the statue of Baidyanath Majumder in its original altar.
