CPIM Politburo member and Leader of Opposition in Tripura Assembly, Jitendra Choudhury, on Tuesday termed the party's recently concluded 24th Congress as a historic event. He said the CPIM has resolved to unite all secular and democratic forces to launch a collective struggle against the BJP-RSS combine, which he alleged has been undermining constitutional values over the past decade.

Choudhury accused the Narendra Modi-led BJP government of attempting to reshape India into a Hindu Rashtra, thereby threatening the secular fabric of the nation. “Our party congress resolved to take a lead role in uniting like-minded forces to defend democracy and the Constitution,” he said.

On the situation in Tripura, Choudhury claimed that the state has become a testing ground for BJP’s “neo-fascist” strategies over the last seven years. He alleged that civil liberties are being suppressed and dissent silenced.

He further said the CPIM would intensify mass awareness campaigns to highlight the erosion of democratic rights, with a commitment to build an exploitation-free society through grassroots mobilization.
