Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Monday stated that no single community is responsible for the social issue of child marriage in the state. Speaking at an event organized by the Hepatitis Foundation of Tripura to mark World Health Day, Dr Saha said the practice is widespread across all communities, particularly in certain districts. He emphasized the need for collective efforts to eliminate this harmful tradition, calling it a major societal challenge.

Highlighting the adverse health impacts of child marriage, Dr Saha said it is physiologically unsuitable for any underage person, regardless of gender, to be married. He urged society to work together to end such practices and protect the well-being of children.

Dr Saha also raised concerns over the growing issue of drug addiction in Tripura. While the state is progressing well in many areas, he said problems like child marriage and substance abuse still pose serious challenges. He mentioned that Rs 150 crore has been sanctioned by the Ministry of DoNER for drug rehabilitation infrastructure, but stressed that prevention is the key.

The Chief Minister also encouraged people to adopt healthier lifestyles and expressed confidence in the state’s improving healthcare system, urging citizens to trust local medical facilities and specialists.
