In a tragic incident a tribal shifting cultivator was electrocuted to death in Chindraipara area on the Barmura hill ranges in the early hours of today. Police sources from Teliamura said that in the early hours of today a powerful norwester with heavy wind speed had struck large areas of Barmura hills , felling trees and disrupting electric connections in a large area.

In the Chandraipara there was no power connection for long hours and coming out of his thatched house a tribal shifting cultivator Abirata Rupini (52) found that the transformer near his house had gone dysfunctional. Without realizing the consequences Abirata Rupini had gone to repair the electric lines attached to the transformer but got electrocuted in the twinkling of an eye and collapsed. The local people raised a hue and cry and informed the Fire Brigade workers who came rushing in and shifted Abirata Rupini to Teliamura hospital where the doctor on duty pronounced him ‘brought dead’. His dead body was handed over to the family after post-mortem. Abirata’s death has cast a shadow of grief and mourning in the Chindraipara village on the Barmura.
