For the first time in its long history the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) has set in motion the process of launching its first ever hospital. The proposed hospital will be a fifty bed one closest to the multi-storied building standing in the premises of the old municipality office east of Jackson Gate. It is expected that the new hospital will partially ease the severe pressure of patients in the GBP hospital even though the state government is planning to set up a number of satellite hospitals around Agartala with the same purpose.
The chief minister Dr Manik Saha laid the foundation stone for the proposed hospital today at 11-30 in the morning for construction of the civil hospital building. The Mayor of AMC Dipak Majumder and the health secretary and senior IAS officer Kiran Gittye attended the programme that had drawn an impressive audience.
Addressing the inaugural programme the chief minister appreciated the initiative of AMC to set up the hospital and said that it will help the government in providing better health care service to the people. “The state government has prioritized the health sector for the best possible service and all the hospitals including community health centres are being equipped with the latest technology for proper service; we also have a target of setting up a chain of satellite hospitals in the state , specially around Agartala to ease the growing pressure on the main referral hospitals like the GBP and the IGM as well as to provide quicker and more smooth service to the patients” said Dr Saha. The AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder also spoke in the same line and asserted that big civic bodies across the state will start providing health service to the people.
