Journalists Demand Arrest of Attackers in Sonamura Subdivision

Two journalists were attacked in Melaghar and Kalamchaura under Sonamura subdivision, sparking demands for the immediate arrest of the perpetrators. This evening, members of the Assembly of Journalists (AOJ) and candidates from the United Progressive panel for the Press Club election submitted a deputation to AIGP Saudan Monchak Ippar and SP Sipahijala.

Journalist Sanjay Acharya from Melaghar was brutally assaulted by anti-social element Kanti Sarkar, while in North Kalamchaura, Boxanagar Press Club President Prabhat Ghosh was attacked by local cannabis cultivator and criminal Jamshed Mia while covering a news report. FIRs have been lodged in both Melaghar and Kalamchaura police stations.

During the deputation, journalists from Agartala demanded the immediate arrest and strict punishment of the culprits in both cases. AIGP Monchak Ippar and the SP of Sipahijala assured their support for these demands.

The deputation team included United Progressive panel’s Secretary candidate Bishwendu Bhattacharya, President candidate Pranab Sarkar, Joint Secretary candidate Sourajit Pal, Executive Member candidates Santosh Gop, Biswajit Dey, Anirban Dey, and AOJ representatives Prasenjit Bhattacharya and Achintya Bhuiya, among others.
