Former members of the banned militant group ATTF have started occupying nearly 100 kani of land in RK Nagar for settlement and are demanding official rehabilitation at the site.
Former ATTF Chief and MLA Ranjit Debbarma visited the area where houses are being built. Speaking in Kokborok, he stated that the land identified for resettlement has remained vacant since 1980. The surrendered militants began constructing houses on March 29, as per their agreement with the Government of India. However, he did not confirm whether the Tripura government had approved the move.
Debbarma emphasized that the site's proximity to the industrial estate could be beneficial for the rehabilitated militants. He urged the local SDM to form a committee to oversee the rehabilitation process and mentioned that official communication with the District Magistrate is ongoing. He added that the land contains only a few banana trees and that the government is obligated to provide rehabilitation.
