Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha stated that the Tripura government has intensified efforts to curb illegal infiltration and human trafficking by conducting joint patrolling in unfenced border areas, carrying out raids, and establishing district-level Anti-Human Trafficking Units.
Responding to a question by MLA Ranjit Debbarma during the Reference Period on the final day of the Tripura Legislative Assembly, Dr. Saha, who is also the Home Minister, revealed that 742 cases were registered under the Indian Passports Act and the Foreigners Act in the past three years. Specifically, 112 cases were recorded in 2022, 303 in 2023, and 327 in 2024.
He emphasized that in 2024, stringent measures were taken against illegal infiltrators and border brokers by enforcing Section 370 of the IPC and Section 143(2) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, 2023 Act.
To counter human trafficking, Tripura Police, in coordination with the BSF, conducts joint patrols along the border. Raids are carried out based on intelligence reports against traffickers involved in illegal crossings from Bangladesh to India. District-level Anti-Human Trafficking Units are actively working with law enforcement agencies to curb such crimes.
Additionally, the Government Railway Police maintains strict surveillance at railway stations and platforms. Regular vehicle checks and inspections are conducted near railway stations and settlements along railway tracks. State police also organize ‘Prayas’ meetings to raise awareness about human trafficking in border areas.
