In a new twist to the ongoing controversy over the script issue for tribal ‘Kokborok’ language , the IPFT , partner in the state government, has also joined the chorus of Roman script for the language. The minister for co-operative department and sole IPFT representative in the cabinet , Shukla Charan Noatia batted for Roman script while speaking in the assembly . Even though IPFT as a party had raised the issues much earlier they were silent over the issue when ‘Tipra Motha’s agitation last week to press for Roman script was raging the state. In his speech yesterday in the assembly Shukla Charan merely paid lip service to the demand for script and made amends with a longer speech later in the session.

While speaking on the budget proposal for the department of co-operation and minority development, Shukla Charan said that this year the budget has allocated a total amount of Rs 5 crores for development work in the minority dominated villages in the state. “Separately an amount of Rs 1.20 crore has been set aside for preservation and development of Wakf property ; our aim is to ensure equitable development for all communities including the religious minorities and this is being done through the budget” said Shukla Charan.
