A political uproar erupted in the Tripura Legislative Assembly after Minister Ratan Lal Nath made a controversial remark directed at Opposition Leader Jitendra Choudhury, stating, "Will lock you inside Melarmath." The statement has drawn severe criticism from the opposition, with Choudhury terming it an "unparliamentary and anti-democratic remark."

Jitendra Choudhury, condemning the comment, stated that such language from a former opposition leader was "highly inappropriate and disgraceful" for the state's parliamentary history. Speaking to reporters outside the Assembly, Choudhury remarked, "When Ratan Nath was the opposition leader, he used to speak for hours inside the Assembly. If MLAs cannot raise the issues of the state's people inside the House, where else should they do it?"

The controversy arose when Choudhury raised concerns about Minister Sudhanshu Das’s BPL brother being listed as the top taxpayer and rewarded by the chief minister Dr Manik Saha in a government function recently at State capital. However, Minister Ratan Lal Nath allegedly interrupted and obstructed him, leading to a heated exchange. Choudhury has strongly condemned Nath’s behavior, stating that it was an attempt to suppress opposition voices inside the Assembly.

Jitendra Choudhury has urged the people of Tripura to judge the situation and hold the government accountable for such anti-democratic actions.
