BPL Minister Sudhanshu Das’s Brother Becomes Tripura’s Top Taxpayer in Two Years – Opposition Questions in Assembly

A heated debate erupted in the Tripura Legislative Assembly today after Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury questioned how Minister Sudhanshu Das’s brother—who belongs to a BPL ration cardholder family—became one of the state’s top taxpayers within just two years of his brother becoming a minister.

As soon as Chaudhury raised the question, Minister Sudhanshu Das stood up and sought permission from Speaker Biswabandhu Sen to respond, citing a point of order. However, before he could reply, Minister Ratan Nath intervened, accusing the Opposition leader of launching a personal attack on Minister Das. Nath went on to claim that Chaudhury’s remarks reflected his own 'caste' background, which further escalated tensions in the Assembly.

Despite Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha signaling Ratan Nath to calm down, the latter continued his counterattack, leading to a heated exchange between both sides. Amid the uproar, Chaudhury demanded an investigation into how Das’s brother achieved such rapid financial success. However, due to the intense chaos, Speaker Biswabandhu Sen moved on to another agenda, leaving the allegations against Minister Sudhanshu Das’s family unanswered.

Notably, while Chaudhury did not explicitly name the minister’s brother, Das immediately reacted upon hearing the reference, further fueling the controversy.
