Senior advocate and activist Purushottam Ray Barman has warned that if the state government fails to fulfill the long-standing demand for regularization of contractual employees, a massive protest will take place in May. Speaking at a press conference today, he emphasized that April will be the last month of waiting, after which employees will be compelled to launch an indefinite agitation.
The press conference, held at the Agartala Press Club, was attended by representatives of various employee organizations, including contract workers who have been demanding regularization for years. Ray Barman criticized the government's delay in addressing the issue, despite repeated appeals and discussions. He stated that many employees have been working for over a decade without job security, financial stability, or essential benefits.
"The government has repeatedly ignored the demands, leaving thousands of workers uncertain about their future. If the long pending demands are not met by April, there will be no other option but to begin a large-scale protest in May," said Ray Barman.
He further pointed out that since July 31, 2018, thousands of contractual employees have been struggling for their rights, yet no concrete action has been taken by the authorities. The demand includes immediate regularization, financial security, and proper working conditions.
The employee representatives at the press conference also highlighted the plight of workers who have faced job insecurity for years. They stressed that if their demands are not addressed soon, the agitation will be intensified, with full support from various organizations and legal forums.
The upcoming weeks are crucial as the employees wait for a response from the government. If no favorable decision is made, the state could witness widespread demonstrations, putting pressure on the administration to act.
