CPI (M) leaders attacked and injured by large group of BJP workers in Jaypur, protest march and demonstration in front of West PS

In an unseemly incident which is familiar in many parts of the state a large group of unruly BJP workers and supporters led by Ram Nagar ‘Mandal’ president Amitav Bhattacharjee dangerously attacked and injured a group of senior CPI (M) leaders at Jaypur area west of Agartala at 3-30 PM. The injured CPI (M) leaders former MLA and party’s west district committee secretary Ratan Das , Raj Nagar local committee secretary Srijan Deb and state committee secretary Subhasish Ganguly on the spot. All thee leaders had to be hospitalized in GBP hospital and the injury sustained by Ratan Das is stated to be critical . In order to protest the attack more than a hundred CPI (M) workers and supporter organised a protest march and staged a demonstration in front of the west Agartala police station demanding immediate arrest of the culprits including ‘Mandal’ secretary Amitav Bhattacharjee of BJP.
Speaking to media in front of west Agartala police station the CPI (M)’s Sadar sudivisional committee secretary and senior leader Amal Chakraborty said that they had organised a meeting in Jaypur area as part of organizational programme. “Around 3-30 PM when the meeting was smoothly and peacefully in progress a large group of BJP workers armed with clubs and rods and led by ‘Mandal’ president Amitava Bhattacharjee reached the spot and pounced on our leaders and workers and started beating them indiscriminately ; as a result the meeting dispersed and our leaders Ratan Das, Srijan Deb and Subhasish Ganguly sustained serious injuries and had to be sent to GBP hospital where they are under treatment” said Amal . He said that the injury sustained by Ratan Das is very serious and he had to be put through CT-Scan and other tests for treatment to examine what has happened to his spine and head.
Amal said that their protest demonstration is going on to press for immediate arrest of the BJP culprits involved in the unprovoked and planned attack. “We will continue our protest all over the state from tomorrow and the chief minister must answer why the law and order situation in the state is so critical” said Amal. He accused the BJP of trying to completely throttle the opposition voice in the state.
