Jamatia Hoda performed Chaitra Puja as a prelude for Garia puja

The prelude for Garia Puja, the biggest festival of the tribals in the state, started with offering Chaitra Puja by Jamatia Hoda in the Udapur Shiv Bari and then the Tripureswari temple on Saturday. Hundreds of people from different parts of the state turned up to participate in the religious program. MLA Rasmpada Jamatia, Abhisek Debroy, legal advisor to the Jamatia Hoda Data Mohan Jamatia, and many other dignitaries were present.
The Chaitra Puja has been performed traditionally in the state for last 434 years. On this day, the two Hoda Okras Bijoy Kumar Jamatia and Manindra Jamatia will perform the puja in both the temples Shiv Bari and the Tripura Sundari temple. Goat and buffalows are also sacrificed on the occasion.
As per tradition, Ganga Puja will be performed in the next three days at River Gomati, Jampui, Khowai, and Manu, which will be followed by a series of rituals to culminate in Garia Puja on the last day of Chaitra, which will continue for seven days.
