বর্ষার ছুটিতে আমি, অয়ন আর রুদ্র ঠিক করলাম নদীর ধারে একটু ঘুরতে যাব। বিকেলটা বেশ মজায় কাটছিল। গল্প করতে করতে কখন যে সন্ধ্যা নেমে এসেছে, আমরা বুঝতেই পারিনি।

হঠাৎ রুদ্র চুপ করে বলল, “তোরা কিছু শুনছিস?”

আমরা কান পাতলাম। নদীর জলের শব্দের মধ্যে যেন কেউ খুব আস্তে কথা বলছে।

অয়ন হেসে বলল, “তোর কল্পনা।”

কিন্তু কয়েক সেকেন্ড পর আমরাও শুনলাম—কেউ যেন আমাদের নাম ধরে ডাকছে।

তিনজনেই চুপ হয়ে গেলাম।

শব্দটার দিকে এগিয়ে গিয়ে একটা পুরোনো নৌকা দেখতে পেলাম। নৌকার ভিতরে ছিল মরচে ধরা একটা টিনের বাক্স। বাক্স খুলে পেলাম একটা পুরোনো ছবি, একটা চিঠি আর কাঠের বাঁশি।

চিঠিতে লেখা—

“যদি এটা কেউ খুঁজে পায়, জেনে রেখো, আমি আর বাড়ি ফিরতে পারিনি।”

হঠাৎ বাঁশিটা নিজে থেকেই একটু নড়ে উঠল।

রুদ্র ফিসফিস করে বলল, “এটা আমরা এখান থেকে নিয়ে যাব না।”

ঠিক তখন নদীর দিক থেকে একটা কণ্ঠস্বর এল—

“বাঁশিটা... বাজিও না...”

আমরা দৌড়ে নৌকা থেকে সরে এলাম।

কিছুদূর গিয়ে অয়ন পিছনে তাকিয়ে থেমে গেল।

“তোরা দেখছিস?”

নদীর মাঝখানে সেই পুরোনো নৌকাটা ধীরে ধীরে ভেসে যাচ্ছে।
