Deepest Condolences and Heartfelt Tribute

It is with profound sorrow and a heavy heart that I mourn the passing of Mr. Biman Chandra Saha, former Commissioner of the Tripura Housing Board and former Chief Engineer of the Water Resources Wing of the Public Works Department, who breathed his last at around 6:45 PM on August 30, 2026, at his residence in Mukundapur, Kolkata.

Biman Da was not merely a highly skilled, dedicated and accomplished engineer, he was, above all, a truly gentle, compassionate and humane person. His warmth, humility, kindness and willingness to help left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

My personal association with Biman Da and the memories I share with him hold a very special place in my heart. In 1990, at the very beginning of my career in journalism, when I was working with Dainik Sambad, he extended valuable support, guidance and information to me on numerous occasions. His encouragement and sincere cooperation during those early and formative years of my professional journey remain deeply etched in my memory.

For a young journalist taking his first steps in the profession, the trust, encouragement and kindness of an experienced and respected person like Biman Da meant a great deal. His support gave me confidence at a crucial stage of my career, and I shall always remember it with the deepest gratitude and respect.

With his passing, we have lost not only a distinguished engineer and a respected professional, but also a wonderful human being whose presence brought warmth and goodwill to those around him. His absence will be deeply felt by his family, his two sons, relatives, friends, colleagues and countless well-wishers.

I convey my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and pray that they may find strength and courage to bear this irreparable loss.



FROM HUMBLE BEGINNINGS TO A LIFE OF SERVICE, LOVE AND LEGACY

On 30 August 2026, Mr. Biman Chandra Saha, lovingly remembered by many as Biman Da, Biman Babu and Sir, left this world for his eternal home at the age of eighty-three. His passing has left behind a profound sense of loss, but also the immeasurable gift of a life lived with dignity, determination, compassion and purpose.

Biman Da was born into a humble family of limited means after his father migrated from Bangladesh. Life did not offer him an easy beginning, but hardship could never limit the size of his dreams. With determination in his heart, discipline in his life and a brilliant intellect, he excelled at Ramesh School before pursuing Civil Engineering at Assam Engineering College in Gauhati.

His early years were a testament to his extraordinary perseverance. As a young boy, he would walk to school barefoot. On weekends, he would undertake journeys of three to four hours to return home to Amarpur. Those difficult journeys became part of the foundation upon which he built his remarkable life.

From such modest beginnings, he rose through education, hard work, perseverance and integrity. His life proved a simple but powerful truth: circumstances may shape where we begin, but they do not have the power to determine where we can go.



A LIFE DEDICATED TO TRIPURA

After completing his engineering education, Biman Chandra Saha embarked on a long and distinguished professional journey, working alongside many respected colleagues, officers and leaders. Throughout his career, he remained a grounded and compassionate professional who respected his seniors and treated his colleagues and juniors with genuine warmth and care.

He eventually retired as Commissioner of the Tripura Housing Board, bringing to a close a career marked by sincerity, dedication, public service and an unwavering commitment to excellence.

Yet, for Biman Babu, engineering was never merely a profession. It was a means of serving the people and contributing to the development of the state he loved so deeply.

He remained particularly passionate about Tripura’s infrastructure, irrigation and flood-management challenges. He devoted considerable thought to developing ideas and proposals aimed at finding lasting solutions to these problems. Some of those dreams are gradually taking shape, even though he could not remain here to witness every one of them become reality.

Even after moving to Kolkata in 2023 for health reasons, Tripura never left his heart. He continued to speak about the state with affection, concern and pride. His connection with Tripura was not simply professional, it was deeply emotional and personal.



A BEAUTIFUL PARTNERSHIP AND A CHERISHED FAMILY

Beyond his professional accomplishments, however, Biman Da considered his family his greatest treasure.

He shared a beautiful and deeply fulfilling marriage with Mrs. Siuli Roy, whom he proudly regarded as the most beautiful lady of her time. Together, they built a life founded on love, companionship, mutual respect and countless shared memories.

At a time when international and long-distance travel was far less common than it is today, the couple followed their curiosity and explored many cherished destinations across India and abroad. Each journey became a chapter in their shared story—filled with discovery, laughter, companionship and memories that remained precious throughout their lives.

Together, they raised two loving sons, Dhritiman and Angshuman Saha, and embraced their families with immense affection. He was immensely proud of his sons and deeply moved by the love, compassion and devotion they showed toward their parents.

His grandchildren, Shouryman, Avantika and Aryaman, occupied a particularly tender corner of his heart. He celebrated their achievements, worried about their well-being and quietly carried their hopes and dreams as though they were his own.

He was equally affectionate toward Sanchita, whom he loved as a daughter, her husband Harekrishna Das, and their two sons. His love for his extended family reflected the generous spirit with which he approached relationships throughout his life.



THE VALUES HE LEAVES BEHIND

Biman Da did not teach through words alone. He taught through the way he lived.

From him, those around him learned the value of honesty without pretence, straightforwardness without malice, humility without weakness and kindness without expectation.

His deep respect for his parents, affection for his brothers and sisters, and enduring loyalty toward relatives and friends reflected his belief that relationships are among life’s most sacred responsibilities.

Three convictions remained particularly close to his heart: his love for Tripura, his commitment to every responsibility he undertook, and his unwavering faith in education.

Having experienced hardship himself, he understood the transformative power of education. He believed that education could break the barriers imposed by circumstances, give people confidence and wings, and help them pursue dreams that might once have seemed beyond their reach.

Perhaps there is no more beautiful way to understand his life than to look back at the barefoot child walking to school and travelling for hours to reach Amarpur—and then to see the man he became: an accomplished engineer, a respected public servant, a Housing Board Commissioner, a devoted husband, a proud father, a loving grandfather and a pillar of his extended family.

And yet, through every transformation, he remained grounded in the values with which he had begun his journey.



A LEGACY THAT WILL LIVE ON

His earthly journey has come to an end, but the journey of his influence has not.

It lives on in the ideas he envisioned, the infrastructure he helped develop, the causes he cared about, the people he encouraged, the colleagues he inspired and, above all, the family he nurtured with unconditional love.

His life was not simply a successful life. It was a meaningful life.

And a meaningful life never truly ends.

It becomes a light carried forward by those who were fortunate enough to know, love and learn from that person.

Biman Chandra Saha leaves behind more than memories. He leaves behind values, dreams, relationships and an example of how a person can rise from humble circumstances without ever losing humility.

For those who called him Biman Da, Biman Babu or Sir, his absence will be deeply felt. For his family, it will be immeasurable. For Tripura, he will remain a son of the soil whose love for the state endured until his final days.

May the Almighty grant his departed soul eternal peace and give his loved ones the strength to carry forward the beautiful legacy he has left behind.
