In a shocking incident a teenaged boy , student of class XI , committed suicide after being insulted and manhandled by a welding shop owner in the Samatal Padmabil area under Khowai police station in the namesake subdivision and district. Police sources from Khowai said that Santanu Das (17), a student of class XI and resident of Samatal Padmabil area, had been insulted and physically manhandled by a welding shop owner Chandan Bhowmik in Paharmura market on last Saturday on the issue of an unpaid amount of Rs 1 thousand only. Santanu took this to heart and did not anything about the  matter to his family members. On that very night Santanu consumed toxic pesticide kept in his home. 

His family members including parents realized what had happened from his guzzling mouth and took him to Khowai hospital where the doctors, in stead of taking any risk in the critical condition of Santanu, referred him to GBP hospital at Agartala. On Sunday morning Santanu breathed his last in the GBP hospital and his family members broke down wailing over his body after Santanu’s mortal remains were taken to his home in Samatal Padmabil area of Khowai. Sources said that Santanu’s parents will file a complaint against the welding shop owner Chandan Bhowmik for inducement to suicide.
