Jiten writes to chief minister opposing the handing over of IGM hospital to Shantiniketan Medical college

The leader of the opposition in state assembly Jiten Chowdhury has opposed the handing over of the state’s iconic referral IGM hospital to the dubious ‘Shantiniketan Medical College’ run by a trust named ‘Swadheen Trust’ controlled by notorious West Bengal Trinamool leader Anubrata Mandal who is now locked up in Tihar jail of Delhi. Sourcing his contention to reports in print and electronics media Jiten has addressed a letter to the chief minister Dr Manik Saha and expressed concern over the fact that the ‘Shantiniketan’ medical college authority has already started shifting their materials , equipments, hospital beds to the IGM hospital and occupying the government run hospital’s space. The state government is not yet known to have taken a formal decision in this regard but the dubious ‘Shantiniketan’ medical college run by Anubrata Mandal’s ‘Swadheen’ trust has started occupying the IGM hospital’s space without waiting for clearance from the government.
In his letter Jiten has pointed out that at a time when expenses of medical service in the private sector is sky-high the IGM hospital caters to the urgent health needs of the poor people in the treatment of females , children, eye-care besides outdoor and multi-speciality facilities and already the congested IGM premise accommodates a dental college and nursing college.  He said that already there are two medical colleges in the state and , if necessary , another medical college can be set up in districts and close to interior areas.
He also pointed out that the leader of the opposition in West Bengal assembly Shebhendu Adhikary addressed a letter to the union health minister saying that ‘Swadheen Trust’ is managed by dubious West Bengal Trinamool leader Anubrata Mandal who is in jail for crimes and the ‘Shantiniketan Medical College’ should not be recognized and the trust should not be allowed to run the medical college. Citing these points Jiten Chowdhury has urged  upon the chief minister Dr Manik Saha to stop the process of handing over the IGM hospital to ‘Shantiniketan Medical College’.
