Election to East Tripura going on amidst allegations by opposition parties of violence resorted to by ruling party, 69.48% polling till 3-00 PM

The election to the East Tripura Loksabha constituency as part of the second phase of ongoing LS polls began quietly in the thirty assembly segments comprising that constituencies. Before the scheduled commencement of the polling at 7-00 AM traditionally clad tribal and non-tribal voters had formed long queues though in some polling booths in each assembly segment the opposition CPI (M) failed to deploy polling agents. 
According to information given out by the election commission brisk polling had continued all through the sultry day and till 3-00 PM 69.48% polllign had been recorded amidst indications that the final polling percentage will reach at least 80%. In spite of the by and large peaceful polling stray incidents  of violence have been reported. 
According to allegations made by the CPI (M) in the polling station  no-17 at Balucherra under the tribal reserve Krishnapur constituency a CPI (M) polling agent Nitya Ranjan Biswas was roughed up and threatened with dire consequences in case he entered the pollng booth as CPI (M) agent. His family was also threatened not to venture out of home to cast votes in today’s election. Nitya Ranjan Biswas filed a complaint with the Teliamura police station. 
In  yet another incident in Manu Valley tea estate area under Kailasahar constituency the residence of CPI (M) polling agent Subrata Chanda was invaded by a gang of BJP miscreants led by Partha Paul of BJP of the area. Not finding Subrata Chanda at home, the BJP miscreants threatened his parents that they would kill him in case he went to work as polling agent of the CPI (M) candidate. Sources in the election commission said that both the complaints are being looked into.
