The Tripura government employees are likely to receive festive bonanza a day before the Deepavali festival in the form of a five percent hike in Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief.
Highly placed sources in the Finance Department said that a hike of Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief is likely to be announced on October 30, a day before the Deepavali.
Recently, the central government announced an additional 3 percent DA hike for central government employees, bringing their total DA to 53 percent.
On the other hand, state government employees currently have received 25 percent. There is a huge gap of 28 percent between the state and central government employees.
According to the state government records, a total 1.06 lakh employees and around 82,000 pensioners of the state are being deprived of the DA they deserve to get. The state government is reportedly trying to bridge the gap with this move.
Given the state's financial limitations, bridging the 28% DA gap at one go doesn't look feasible.
It is learnt that a proposal of 5 to 7 percent DA hike has been made by the Finance Department initially but considering all factors the approval has been given for five percent hike.
