As per the proposal of Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, the Agartala Municipal Corporation and West Tripura District Administration have decided to relocate the ‘Mayer Gomon’ carnival organised followed by Vijaya Dashami. The cultural extravaganza draw huge crowd in the city with all the major clubs participating in the event with their idols. The devotees pay adieu to Maa Durga with a heart full of hopes of her arrival next year.
For the last several years, this carnival was organized at Paradise Chowmuhani area, but this year, the authorities have plans to add more grandeur to the event. In a recent preparatory meeting, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha proposed that the main cultural event of the carnival procession should be held at the heart of the city. According to him, Ujjayanta Palace is the most suitable location. “It was a tradition that all the major Durga idols of Agartala City were used to proceed for immersion from the entrance of the royal palace. This should be brought back,” the CM proposed. Considering the Chief Minister's proposal, all the key departments involved in organising the event, including Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs, and the traffic and police departments, conducted a joint inspection of the area near Maharani Tulsibati Square on Thursday.
Mayor Deepak Majumdar, AMC Commissioner Shailesh Kumar Yadav, Secretary of the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs Pradip Chakraborty, and Director Bimbisar Bhattacharya, among other officials were part of the jumbo official team that inspected the new location.
After reviewing the area, they decided that the carnival will start from Tulsibati Square this year. Pradip Chakraborty, Secretary of the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs, announced that the ‘Mayer Gomon’ carnival procession of the goddess Durga will take place on October 14 and this time the main cultural event from where the idols will proceed from immersion would be held in front of Maharani Tulsibati school and the royal palace.
“After the inspection, it is decided that a meeting will be held on September 22 with various stakeholders, including local clubs, AMC officials, the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs, the Power Department, and the police and traffic departments. This meeting will finalise the new road map for the carnival,” Chakraborty pointed out.
