LIVERCON – 8: A SCIENTIFIC LIVER CONFERENCE FOR PROMOTING PEOPLE’S HEALTH

Hepatitis Foundation of Tripura is organizing a scientific Conference LIVERCON 8on LIVER DISEASES on 14thto 15th June 2025 at International Convention Centre, Agartala.
The Hepatitis Foundation of Tripura was established on 28th July 2002 and since then it has been actively performing multifarious activities in the field of Health and Education. The foundation conceived and designed various pioneering Programs and implemented them in a missionary mood.
The major area being Hepatitis and liver disease, the foundation initially started mass Hepatitis B vaccination and has already vaccinated more than 14 Lac population of Tripura which is about 37% of total population of the state. The foundation is one of the strong proponents of Mass Hepatitis B vaccination program which is gradually being accepted globally.
Science of HEPATOLOGY is fast expanding and is very dynamic, so for regular upgradation of Science of Hepatology, the foundation started scientific conference named as LIVERCON.
The first National level liver disease scientific conference LIVERCON was organized by Hepatitis Foundation of Tripura in 2011 .The first conference got overwhelming response from the doctors and people of Tripura and faculties across the country and abroad. Good number of delegates participated in LIVERCON conferences in the year 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2022 and 2024.
This year on 14th and 15th June 2025, Hepatitis Foundation of Tripura is organizing “LIVERCON 8”. Almost 25 internationally acclaimed Hepatologists are attending the conference to deliver lecture on various aspects of liver disease from various part of country. About 300 doctors of Tripura and North Eastern states are expected to participate in the conference to interact with doctors and laymen.
The theme of “Livercon VIII” is “LIVER HEALTH FOR ALL: EMPOWERINRMENT OF COMMUNITY”.
The concept of Community Hepatology is being upheld in this conference and around 100 Health Champions or Swyastha Sevak will be present and various issues of People’s health will be highlighted in this conference.
Artificial Intelligence or AI is a very upcoming area in the health sector and it is considered that Man and Machine can be complementary to each other. Hence a Workshop has been designed for hands on Training on use of AI in health care. It is now believed people’s health can only be protected by people themselves by empowering the community. Hence Health centric care is more important than disease centric approach. LIVERCON 8 will enlighten various upcoming issues in Hepatology or Liver Science.
The pattern of liver diseases is changing very fast. Disease like viral hepatitis is reducing and world is moving towards elimination of Viral Hepatitis by 2030 as targeted by World Health Organization(WHO). Still Hepatitis B vaccination is one of the important modalities of achieving the target of Elimination.
But in recent years Metabolism associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) or Fatty liver disease is increasing and becoming major cause of chronic liver disease leading to liver cirrhosis and Liver cancer. Therapeutic life style changes like healthy low calorie diet and regular exercise can only reduce or prevent Non alcoholic fatty liver disease or MASLD.Diabetes, Hypertension, obesity and increase in Triglyceride or decrease in good cholesterol High density lipoprotein and over all metabolic syndromesis leading to chronic liver disease mostly.
Alcohol is also an important but preventable cause of Chronic liver disease. In Tripura alcohol use disorders are increasing and needs to be contained.
Intravenous drug use is one of the current health problems of Tripura and can lead to complicated liver diseaselike Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and HIV/ AIDS.Immediate intervention is the need of hour.
In Tripura, availability of good diagnostic facilities now makes it possible to diagnose liver disease early, leading to reduction of complications. Awareness development among the people is of paramount importance to diagnosis, treatment and prevention of liver disease.
The greatest development of Liver Disease in this Century is the development of better treatment modality. Liver transplantation has revolutionised the treatment of end stage liver disease and India is having many state of art hospitals to provide best result of liver transplantation.
As liver disease mortality increasing, early intervention is the need of the hour as most of the liver diseases are preventable. Dissemination of knowledge of liver disease is the prime objective of LIVERCON 2025.
About 300 doctors from Tripura and other North East States are expected to participate in the conference. About 25 very famous teachers of teachers will attend this conference to deliver lecture. Among them some of the names are from New Delhi Dr. Gourdas Chaudhari, Dr Ashish Kumar, Dr B.B. Rewari , From Chennai Dr Joy Varghise , Dr Dinesh Jyotimani , Dr Pranthar Chakraborti, from Kolkata Dr AKash Roy , Dr Ramdip Roy ,Dr Saptarshi Bishnu , Dr Ashis Kumar Saha , from Gauhati DrAmitabha Goswami , Dr Amritangshu Barkotoki , From Mizoram Dr H.lalrinmawai ,From Japan Dr Fazle Akbar and many others. Dr S. K. Sarin from New Delhiand Dr Mamun from Bangladesh will also deliver lecture in the conference. Livercon 8 is going to be a mile stone event in the history of Liver disease diagnosis, Treatment and prevention in India.Hepatitis Foundation of Tripura is promoting Preventive Health, Positive Health and People’s Health concept. This conference will give a big momentum to this mission and vision.
