The Demons Remain

The drums resound, the heavens glow,
Ma Durga returns, as legends flow.
We worship the strength that conquers all,
Yet hear her daughters' silent call.
The pandals shine, the streets ignite,
Yet women fear the falling night.
She comes with her children, fearless and strong
— But what if she walked those streets alone?
Each year, one demon meets his end,
While earthly demons still pretend.
Another cry, another plea,
Another verdict yet to be.
We bid her farewell, our eyes full of tears,
Then leave her daughters to battle their fears.
We immerse the Goddess, the lights disappear—
But the demons she came to destroy remain here.
We celebrate the Goddess who sets women free— But when will our world let its women be?
