In the heart of Agartala, where the hustle and bustle of daily life intertwines with the serene beauty of the region, lies Himalaya Optics – a name that was once synonymous with trust and quality. My personal journey with Himalaya Optics, however, turned out to be a tale of frustration and disappointment, leaving me grappling with the inefficacies of their craftsmanship and the sheer arrogance of their marketing head, Ms. Jaya Dey.
I procured four pairs of spectacles – two progressive lenses and two reading glasses – from Himalaya Optics, hoping to enhance my vision and ease my daily activities. Alas, from the very day of delivery, these pairs became a source of relentless trouble. Issues ranging from poor fit to unclear vision plagued my experience, compelling me to become a regular visitor to the Himalaya Optic Centre at Mantri Bari Road. Each visit was an attempt to seek assistance and rectify the myriad issues I encountered.
In a bid to find solace and remedy, I ventured to seek alternatives. I had three new pairs of spectacles crafted from different establishments: one from Optics at Noida, another from Sharp Sight Eye Clinic at Agartala, and a third from Titan Eye Wear at Agartala. To my relief, all these new pairs were impeccably made, emphasizing the stark contrast in quality compared to what I received from Himalaya Optics.
During this tumultuous period, I also had two pairs of glasses made for my wife from Himalaya Optics, only to discover they too were defective. In sheer desperation, I decided to return all the faulty glasses to their Agartala unit and made a public post on Facebook detailing my woes. An old friend, Boman, requested me to delete the post, having taken up the matter with Mr. Alok Binani, the Director.
However, Mr. Binani's efforts were overshadowed by the defiance and blatant dishonesty of Ms. Jaya Dey, the marketing head. She brazenly claimed that two out of the four spectacles were not manufactured at their unit. When I presented documentary proof to counter her falsehoods, she chose silence over accountability. My ordeal did not end there. When I contacted Sukanta from the Agartala unit, he began recording our conversations without my consent. I reported the matter to both Ms Dey and Mr Alok Binani, but they also kept silent. Recording calls by a non-governmental third party contravenes Section 25 of the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885, which prescribes punishment that may extend to three years, or a fine, or both?
Despite all the setbacks, Ms. Jaya Dey refunded Rs 4200.00 for one of the spectacles. Yet, she remained silent regarding the other five pairs – three of mine and two of my wife's. It became clear to me that Ms. Dey, a seemingly unscrupulous liar, wielded unmatched authority within the company, rendering even the directors like Mr. Binani mere pawns in her game.
Mr. Alok Binani, despite his best efforts, had to bow to the obstinacy and unyielding nature of Ms. Jaya Dey. In the grand empire of the Binanis, it appeared that a mere marketing head wielded the ultimate power, calling the shots and dictating the course of events.
This saga, replete with deception, frustration, and a glimmer of hope, serves as a testament to the challenges faced by consumers in their quest for quality and fairness. The reign of Ms. Jaya Dey at Himalaya Optics stands as a poignant reminder of the impact of leadership and the importance of integrity in all spheres of business.
