From the Desk of Hony. State Secretary
Indian Medical Association, Tripura State Branch
Dr Basab Ghosh
March 11, 2024, 10:07:34
Respected President, Indian medical
Association, Tripura State Branch – Dr Sanjib Kumar Debbarma sir, Honorable
Chief Minister of Tripura and today’s chief guest and inaugurator - Prof Dr
Manik Saha sir, respected Guest of Honor health secretary of Tipura Sri Gitte
Kirankumar Dinkarrao ji, respected Special Guest - Director of Health of Govt
of Tripura Dr Supriya Mallik sir, Org Chairman Dr Jayanta Ray sir, distinguished guests, members of press and
electronic media, ladies and gentlemen on behalf of the Elected Committee (EC)
and the Executive Working Committee (EWC), I welcome everyone from core of my
heart in the 54th All Tripura Medical Conference TRIMACON 2024 by
Indian Medical Association, Tripura State Branch (IMA-TSB). I congratulate our
organizing committee of TRIMACON 2024for successful first day of the state
conference and looking forward to its stupendous end tomorrow!
It is my immense privilege to stand here as Hony. State
Secretary; probably I am the first IMA state secretary from the private medical
field in Tripura! Might be not related to this, but I believe, we require more
private involvement in every field to have positive impact in growth. Regarding
health care, in our country the private health sector consists of 58% of the
hospitals, 29% of beds in hospitals and 81% of doctors. If we look at the
Government Health Expenditure (GHE), share of Union Government is only 34.3%
and the rest 65.7% is expensed by the State Government. In Tripura our State
Government is working remarkably for the betterment of the state health system;
now we, the doctors need to keep the pace with dedicated services to place it
in the pinnacle! If I mention Chennai is the health capital of India, it is
because strong foundation put down by the state government always keeping a
healthy completion between government and private services to make the overall
health services best in India! So, private health care would be always
beneficial to contribute in the total health expenditures of the states and
also to keep up a healthy contest over the strong foundation laid by the state
Government services.
The Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) aimed at
strengthening medical standards in our country and there is 82% surge in the
number of medical colleges, rising from 387 before 2014 to an impressive 706
medical colleges in 2023. Also the government has started working on the
principle of “One District One Medical College” to convert all the districts in
the country into Ayushman districts. It would be wonderful for the people of
this country. But it is thought provoking too! In future would there be lots of
medical graduates probably with less job opportunity? We need to create job
opportunities for our budding medical graduates. Probably private care field
could be kept ready for them by keeping bar in all institutional practice;
probably the best policy would be one professional in one place!
The IMA is a democratic national voluntary organization of
the modern medicine doctors in India. It was established in 1928. Presently there
are around four lacs members spread over more than 1700 local branches in most
of the districts in all the 29 states and union territories in India. Obviously
it is the largest association of medical doctors in India, irrespective of the
fraternity!
“Fear free working field for the doctors”, that is what I
pledge to IMA HQ social media group in the same evening when there was brutal
attack on duty doctor and demolition of hospital property at Kanika Memorial
PHC in North Tripura on June 25, 2023 evening and immediately IMA Assam, Bihar,
Karnataka, Gujrat, Goa and Telengana expressed their solidarity to the IMA-TSB.
On June 28, 2023 National President and Hony. Secretary General of IMA HQ wrote
letter of concern to our Hon`ble Chief Minister, Union Home Minister and Prime
Minister. Zero such incident is best of the wishes to any doctor and IMA is
constantly working on that ethics!
Vision of IMA is very crystal clear. IMA is committed to
preserve the autonomy of profession. It is working to maintain dignity, honor
and social security of the medical fraternity in the country. It also strives
to provide quality healthcare to each and every citizen of India.
IMA-TSB has tried to extend social responsibility by
various activities and our members were involved in the affairs of our
association; we are trying to make it a lively and vibrant body by increasing
the networking between the people and the health care system, I believe that
would be helpful to improve the doctor patient’s relationships in our state!
