Justice Amarnath Gaur of Tripura High Court has instructed the state government and the Tripura Road Transport Corporation to pay the earned leave in cash to the retired employees of the corporation within the next six months as they are entitled to leave encashment facilities. It will benefit hundreds of employees.

Disposing a bunch of writ petitions filed by retired employees of the corporation, the justice said the employees will have the right to take legal steps if the authority fails to pay the dues during this stipulated time.

In 1972, the then Managing Director of the corporation in a notification said the employees of the TRTC issuing a notification said all the rules and regulations of the state government would apply to TRTC. In 2012, the board of directors passed a resolution that the employees of the corporation will be entitled to leave encashment up to 240 days. In 2014 it was increased to 300 days but the authority was not paying it.

Altogether 15 writ petitions were filed. The court delivered the verdict amalgamating all the petitions. Senior Advocate Purusuttam Roy Barman argued in favor of the petitioners. He was assisted by Samarjit Bhattacharjee, Kaushik Nath, Sutapa Debbarma, and Deepajyoti Pal. Advocates Rajashree Purkayastha and Rajib Saha represented the employees in another case.
