The much-awaited election to the East Tripura (ST) Loksabha constituency ended more or less peacefully today at 5-00 PM as scheduled . As per a note circulated by the election commission around 81% overall polling was recorded today till 5-00 PM. But sources in the election department here said that the percentate may go up further after final computation of all votes polled and after they receive the feedback from the presiding officers .

No major untoward incident has been reported from anywhere but stray incidents like threats and intimdation of voters and polling agents mostly by BJP have been reported. According to the press note circulated by the election commission Hrishyamukh assembly segment of Belonia subdivision recorded the highest turn out of 85% votes but the constituency had witnessed largescalel irregularities by the BJP workers and supporters. The lowest turn out was recorded in the Ampinagar assembly segment at 68.53%.

There are however allegations that in Khowai subdivision from last night the anti-social elements of BJP had started threatening and intimidating voters from house to house not to go to cast their votes. A senior leader of the CPI (M) said that after 2-00 PM today the BJP supporters had captured all the poling booths and rigged the polls. The BJP sources however said that the polling was peaceful and undisturbed and CPI (M)- Congress were making false allegations.
