CPI (M) leaders urge upon the RO East Tripura seat to prevent the replication of what happened on April 19 in West Tripura LS seat election

A group of CPI (M) leaders and secretaries of North Tripura, Unakoti , Dhalai and Khowai distrcts have addressed letter to the returning officer (RO) of East Tripura (ST) Loksabha seat and SM (Dhalai) Saju Waheed to ensure that the alleged largescale electoral malpractices witness in the election to West Tripura Loksabha seat on April 19 are not repeated in the election to East Tripura (ST) seat on April 26. In the letter they have said that on April 19 in the election to West Tripura LS seat undesirable and unexpected things happened and they have made a number of specific demands.

The demands include continuing CCTV surveillance and webcasting of the entire procedure in each and every polling booth from mock poll to sealing of EVMs and preservation of the unedited and original footage with the returning officer. In the event of any act of omission in this task they will take legal action, the CPI (M) leaders said in the letter. Foolproof security measure including checking of EPICS and identity cards of all people moving within a 100 metre radius of all polling stations must be done carefully and meticulously. No undesirable movement and unauthorized videography should be entertained. Adequate number of micro-observers must be appointed and all voters standing in queue must be identified with EPICS or other identity proofs and this process must be continually videographed.

After the vocal campaign is over all outsiders from the entire East Tripura LS seat must be sent away. It must also be ensured that threats to voters by visiting their homes and obstacles in the way of voters coming to polling booths must be prevented by the commission by deploying security force. All outsiders must be kept outside the constituency until the EVMs are safely deposited in the strong rooms.
