BJP gives clarification on complaints filed by Sudip Roybarman and CPI (M) against Biplab Kumar Deb’s speech

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has given a clarification to the returning officer of East Tripura (ST) Loksabha seat on the complaints filed by Congress MLA Sudip Roybarman and CPI (M) state secretary Jiten Chowdhury regarding the speech delivered by former chief minister and BJP candidate for West Tripura LS seat Biplab Kumar Deb on last Monday and Tuesday at Teliamura and Gandacherra.

On Sudip Roybarman’s complaint that he had been threatened by Biplab Deb on Tuesday last Balai Goswami , election agent of Biplab, said that no name had been taken in the speech and Sudip had taken it upon himself . He also referred to a speech delivered by Sudip Roybarman who , he alleged, had threatened the BJP candidate as well as workers and because of ‘guilty conscience’ had filed a complaint against Biplab Deb, taking upon himself the contents of the latter’s speech in which no name had been taken .

On the CPI (M)’s complaint the letter addressed by Balai Goswami said that election rules permit criticism of political parties , their policies and programmes . He said that the left from rule in Tripura between 1978-1988 and again between 1993-2018 had been one of the bloodies marred by organised political violence , murder and various others kinds of oppression on people. This had been referred to by Biplab Deb and it was only after 2018 that the era of free and fair election started in Tripura. He asked the returning officer to verify the contention. He also quoted a line from the party constitution of CPI (M) to assert that the party has no faith in the constitution of the country. Balai said that there is no violation of model code of conduct in the speeches of Biplab Kumar Deb in Teliamura and Gandacherra.
