The CPI (M) state secretary and central committee member Jiten Chowdhury has filed a complaint with the central election commission with copy to the office of chief electoral officer, Tripura regarding the glaring mismatch between total votes and polled votes in Mazlishpur, Khayerpur and Mohanpur assembly segments of West Tripura parliamentary constituency.

Jiten said , citing figures released by election department , that in Part no-44 of Mazlishpur assembly segment total voters 545 but altogether 574 votes had been recorded while in Part no-44 of Khayerpur assembly constituency total voters were 1290 but votes polled were 1292. Jiten also cited two other glaring instances : in Part no-25 of Khayerpur assembly segment there were 820 votes but altogether 830 had been cast. Similarly, in Part no-38 of Mohanpur assembly constituency there were 451 votes but as many as 492 votes had been cast.

Jiten alleged in his letter that but for organised rigging and booth capturing such discrepancies could not have occurred. He also said that same scenes were replicated in the Ram Nagar assembly constituency by-poll as there had been largescale and organised rigging. He demanded that elections to both West Tripura LS seat and Ram Nagar assembly seat be annulled and held afresh in a free and fair manner.
