Public resistance against drug peddling by miscreants but illegal trade still going on

Amidst the proliferation of drug peddling and growing addiction to drugs among youths, members of the public seem to have started resistance programme. In the first such incident in Ghaniamara area under Bishalgarh police station the local people caught hold of notorious snatcher and bike-lifter Joel Ahmed and three of his accomplices and gave him a sound thrashing before handing him over to police yesterday in the afternoon. Joel Ahmed served two prison terms under two cases of cheating and NDPS. Police sources said that recently Joel Ahmed and his accomplices had started detaining vehicles carrying smuggled goods on the Bishalgarh-Boxanagar road for exacting money. He had made the same attempt yesterday, trying to extort money from a vehicle in the name of a local club and was seen by local people who caught hold of him and handed him over to police after roughening him up. Three of his accomplices Badal Hossain, Raquib Hossain and Deloar Hossain were also handed over to police.

Meanwhile a drug peddler youth was caught by Amtoli police personnel and a large quantity of brown sugar was recovered from his possession . The officer in charge of Amtoli police station Ranjit Debnath gave this information and said that a case under NDPS act has been registered against the nabbed youth whose identity is yet to be disclosed.
