‘Yaba’ tablets worth Rs 3 crores seized, Melaghar OC injured while pursuing smuggler vehicle

In a bizarre and potentially dangerous incident the officer in charge of Melaghar police station in Sonamura subdivision Debasish Saha sustained injuries while pursuing a vehicle carrying contraband and addictive ‘Yaba’ tablets worth Rs 3 crores this morning. Even though the injuries sustained by OC Debasish Saha was not very serious , the incident could have led even to deaths. Police sources from Melaghar said that acting on a tip-off about smuggling of ‘Yaba’ tablets on a vehicle the OC , Melaghar Debasish Saha had waylaid a vehicle a little ahead of Melaghar but the vehicle dodged the police dragnet and started speeding ahead .

The OC Melaghar and his team gave the vehicle a hot pursuit on police vehicle and the former could not keep balance and fell on a road side house in Indranagar area around 10-30 in the morning today. The officer in charge Debasish Saha who had jumped out of the vehicle sustained serious injuries . Even though the driver of the vehicle had managed to flee , his assistant identified as Deedar Hossain of Kulubari in Sonamura was caught by police. Having searched the vehicle the police recovered a huge stock of contraband ‘Yaba’ tablets worth Rs 3 crores in the black market.

The additional SP Rajiv Sutradhar who briefed media persons about the incident said that police operation to nab the fugitive driver will continue and the arrested assistant Deedar Hossain will be produced in court. He also described today’s seizure as a major success of police in Melaghar.
