The state cabinet in its meeting held today has taken a decision to recruit 112 staff members for the prison department including wardens. Besides following existing reservation formula the recruitment process will provide 33% reservation for women. Announcing this in an interaction with the media the minister for food and civil supply and cabinet spokesperson Sushanta Chowdhury said that the process of recruitment will be initiated soon. There will be attempts to recruit staff to vacant posts in other departments including schools and colleges in a phased manner.
Apart from this, Sushanta said that in compliance with a decision taken by the central road and transport department in the year 2021, Tripura government will phase out altogether 412 government vehicles which are fifteen and more years old already. These vehicles have already been identified and the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) will be involved in the phasing out of these vehicles and this will be followed by the phasing out of similarly old private vehicles.
Replying to queries from media persons about the controversy surrounding the proposal to hand over the ‘Pushpavanta Palace’ (former Raj Bhawan) Sushanta said that the matter is still in the stage of proposal and the chief minister Dr Manik Saha will taken a final decision on the issue. “The palace was sold out to the state government and theoretically the state government is empowered to do anything with it ; there are also instances of royal palaces being converted into hotel like the royal palace of Udaipur in Rajasthan ,so what is wrong with this; moreover , those lamenting over this have themselves royal properties and heritage sites into marriage halls and spots” said Sushanta . He added that the ‘Pushpavanta Palace’ is being currently retrofitted and there is no attempt to change its architectural design but the final decision in this regard will be taken by the chief minister.
