Despite tall claims to the contrary incidents of grisly crimes against women have kept on rising almost all over the state. In the latest outrages two house-wives have been killed by their husbands and family members in separate incidents at Agartala and Khowai.
The first grisly incident took place in Madhya Bhubonban area of Agartala. Police sources said that Rajiv Das (40) of the area had married Swapna Das (38) about eighteen years ago and the couple have two children . Even though the family was living peacefully trouble started about two years ago when Rajiv had developed illicit relation with another women and used to spend nights in the latter’s house. Swapna had discovered this and protested , inviting beating from her miscreant husband. The matter was taking a serious turn when last week Rajiv sent Swapna to her paternal home in Aralia area by telephoning to his mother in law. Swapna had returned home on Saturday evening but yesterday her hanging dead body with feet touching the ground was discovered . This created furore in the area as local people knew of Rajiv’s conjugal dispute with his wife and his ill-treament. After being informed police personnel shifted Swapna’s dead body for post mortem in GBP hospital. Police sources said that only a detailed post-mortem will reveal whether Swapna had committed suicide or had been murdered.
In a separate incident another house-wife Monideepa Chowdhury (40)had reportedly made a mysterious attempt to commit suicide in her home at Lalcherra Nazrul Pally area under Khowai town . Police sources said Monideepa Chowdhury , originally a resident of Bhatta Pukur area of Agartala, had been married two decades ago with Pratap Narayan Chowdhury (42) a resident of Khowai Lalcherra and a pharmacist in Khowai hospital. Their only daughter is studying MBBS in RIMS , Imphal. It was on Saturday that the husband and wife had tiff over a petty issue and then husband Pratap Narayan had gone out. Sources said that after her husband had left home, Monideepa had made an attempt by lighting her gas oven with match light. She caught fire on the side of her body and face and after hearing her shouting local people rushed in and shifted her to Khowai hospital from where Monideepa was referred to GBP hospital, Agartala . But she breathed her last yesterday in the morning and her body was taken home to Khowai by her husband and relatives. Sources said that apparently it is a case of suicide but everything will be clear after a detailed post-mortem report is available.
