The obsession of the usurper leaders of post-‘revolution’ Bangladesh in revising and rewriting history seems to be gaining in momentum by the day. In the paranoid urge of the new leaders of the illegitimate interim government names of altogether six medical colleges in the country bearing names of ‘Bangabandhu’ Sheikh Mujibur Rahaman and his daughter and ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina have been changed by official notification.
Sources from across the border said that the names of six medical colleges, including Sheikh Hasina Medical College in Jamalpur and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College in Faridpur, have been changed to reflect the respective district names instead of an individual’s name. The announcement in this regard came in a notification signed by Dr Md Sarwar Bari, secretary of the Medical Education and Family Welfare Division, under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, on Wednesday.
According to the notification, Colonel Maleque Medical College in Manikganj is now Manikganj Medical College, Abdul Malek Ukil Medical College in Noakhali is now Noakhali Medical College and Sheikh Hasina Medical College in Jamalpur is now Jamalpur Medical College.Additionally, Sheikh Hasina Medical College in Tangail, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College in Faridpur and M Abdur Rahim Medical College in Dinajpur have been renamed Tangail Medical College, Faridpur Medical College and Dinajpur Medical College, respectively. The notification states that this order, issued under the president's directive, will take effective immediately. “We are against building a cult of any individual in the country which leads to despotic tendencies in their names ; hence the renaming” sources said.
