Responding positively to growing demand , the BJP led state government headed by chief minister Dr Manik Saha today sanctioned an additional 5% DA for state’s employees and pensioners with effect from November 1. This was announced in an interaction with the media by the cabinet spokesperson and minister for food and transport Sushanta Chowdhury. He said that the decision in this regard had been taken by a meeting of the state cabinet.
The additional 5% DA announced today closes the gap in DA received by state’s and central employees as after today’s sanction the state’s employees and pensioners will receive altogether 30% of DA and DR compared with Centre whose employees and pensioners now receive 53% of DA and DR, the latter means dearness relief meant for pensioners. The state governments of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh have already brought the DA and DR received by their employees and pensioners at par with Centre-that is 53%.
Speaking to media the minister Sushanta Chowdhury said that the state at the moment has 1.6 lakh employees and 82 thousand pensioners and the cost entailed by the latest installment of DA and DR sanctioned today will be Rs 500 crores annually. “During the past two years till now our government has sanctioned 27% of DA and DR; this certainly shows our sincerity in ameliorating the condition of employees and pensioners and this will continue, depending on the resources at the disposal of the state government” said Sushanta.
