The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party inches closer to the half-way mark of its projected target for membership enrollment at the end of the first phase, a senior party functionary has said. “The total membership till September 25 stands at 5,18,944. For Tripura, the BJP set a target of enrolling 12 lakh members across the state, a figure double of its existent strength of party members when the drive was launched. After Durga Puja, the second phase of the drive will begin,” a senior BJP leader informed this newspaper requesting anonymity. It should be noted here that the existing members are also required to renew their affiliation to the party. Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha launched the drive on September 03 in Tripura after renewing his membership of the party in presence of BJP Tripura Pradesh President Rajib Bhattacharjee. According to data shared by the party on social media platforms, the highest number of entries had been made in the urban organisational district. A total of 88,573 enrolments have been made in the urban parts of West Tripura. East Tripura contributed with 67,949 members and the rural portion of the sadar organisation district recorded 61,343 memberships. In Gomati and Sepahijala districts 59,852 and 50,329 members had been enrolled respectively. It should be noted here that the BJP has divided the state into 10 organisational districts for wider reach and connection with masses. The membership enrolment drives are being carried out in altogether 3,349 organisational booths which could be considered as the founding units of the whole organisational structure.
