High tension in Melaghar over peoples protest in front of police station

Political turmoil in Melaghar market area under Sonamura subdivision shows no sign of abating . After the recent assault on the husband of the Melaghar municipality the situation has only worsened. Following the physical assault on her husband by notorious nego mafia, the chairperson of the Melaghar municipality Anamika Ghosh had filed a FIR with the police station against a BJP Gram Pradhan Sentu Barman and his five accomplices including Kalipada Barman, Bijay Nama, Uttam Debnath , Sanjay Saha, all of whom were arrested last night. Anamika’s complaint yesterday was accompanied by a siege around the Melaghar police station by a large number of supporters of Anamika Ghosh demanding immediate arrest of Sentu Barman and his accomplices for assault on the husband of Aanmika Ghosh. This had caused lot of suffering to common people including shop-keepers in the market as well as vehicles plying through the main road across the market.

But today things took a different turn as supporters of Gram Pradhan Sentu Barman-all residents of Purba Chandigarh- laid a siege around the Melaghar police station demanding rejection of the FIR and filing of complaint against Melaghar municipality chair-person Anamika Ghosh. They also demanded release off all arrested persons. Despite persuasion by police the men and women demonstrators have continued protesting the filing of FIR against Sentu Barman. This has resulted in great suffering for the common people, shop-keepers, traders and vehicles plying through the market. According to latest reports the protest has been going on .
