Newly formed STHP Tipra Ha party advocate restoration of old Tripura

A newly formed party under the banner of STHP Tipra Ha, led by Kalpamohan Tripura (president), Kapinda Reang (vice president), Hirendra Kumar (general secretary), has indirectly called for restoration of old and historic Tripura but opposed the demand of ‘Greater Tipraland’ raised by ‘Tipra Mottha’ party of Pradyot Kishore. Significantly the new party has given a slogan of ‘Pahari Bangali Bhai Bhai’ (hill people and Bengalis are brothers). Speaking to media persons in the Agarala Press Club the leaders of the new party also circulated a map showing the entire Chittagong hill tract, Pabna,Comilla, Khulna and Bagura districts of Bangladesh as the new Tripura which was once the united Tripura of the past. “We want the restoration of old Tripura because all these areas were once parts of Tripura; people on both sides of the new and reunited Tripura should be able to visit all areas without any visa and live together happily” said the leaders. What however seemed bizarre is that the leaders want the Indian national flag to have the royal insignia of Tripura inscribed on it with other symbols of royalty.

The president Kalpa Mohan Tripura and general secretary Hirendra Kumar said that as part of their effort for reunification of Tripura they will approach the chief minister, governor and union home minister and prime minister for realization of the demands. “Finally we are also ready to approach the United Nations so that our demand for reunification is met” the leaders said . Apart from this, they added that they will also approach the high court and supreme court but did not clarify how they expect the political leadership and the courts in India to fulfill their demand which has international implication. They also emphatically dismissed the demands for ‘Tipraland’ and ‘Greater Tipraland’.
