Locals detained three drug mafias, manhandled, and burnet two motorbikes in Dharmanagar village

The government-sponsored fight against drugs seems to have turned into a people movement as the residents of Sonarbasha village in the suburb of Dharmanagar detained two drug smugglers, manhandled them and burnt down two motorbikes they were using. The incident caused serious tension in the area but could not flare up due to the timely intervention of the police.

The two persons detained by the people were known to be members of a local drug mafia Helal Mian and had been under watch of the local people for a long time. Sometime back, police arrested Halal who was in jail custody. Recently he came out on bail and resumed his old business. Every evening many drug dealers and users used to assemble his house and the atmosphere of the locality was vitiating.

A few days ago local people went to the house of Helal and warned him. His mother assured the locals that he won’t continue this business but all was in vain. On Monday evening the local people laid a trap and detained three drug mafias when they came out of Helal’s house. However, three others managed to escape from the spot.
