After roads and highways, the long fly-over connecting AD Nagar police line area with Fire Brigade Chaumuhuni and Melarmath in Agartala town has emerged as a vulnerable place for vehicular accidents. Already several people have lost their lives in accidents on the fly-over and particularly alarming was the death of two youths including a young cricketer last year when their speeding motor bikes fell down on road from the fly-over in Fire Brigade Chaumuhuni.
Raking up the terrible memory of the past a Maruti vehicle carrying four drunk and unruly youths last night collided with the side-wall of the fly-over near the Fire Brigade station in AD Nagar police line. The incident happened around 10-00 in the night and Fire Brigade personnel rushed up to the site of the accident . They shifted the four injured passengers including the driver named Prasenjit Chakraborty, Prabin Basak Shil, Malay Kumar Saha and and Kamal Krishna Saha to GBP hospital . The Maruti vehicle numbered TR 01 BN 0362 was seized by police and taken to AD Nagar police station.
A Fire Brigade employee Sudip Acharjee who had taken the injured passengers to the hospital said that they had heard a booming sound after the vehicle had hit the side-wall of the fly-over and then brought the injured passengers to the hospital . Sources from AD Nagar area said that the fly-over has become accident prone because of the absence of any traffic control over it . Even during day-time there is no mechanism to regulate traffic on the fly-over while at night it is free for all as drunken youths drive their vehicles at abnormally high speed under the influence of liquor and other addictive materials. The people have demanded installation of traffic control mechanism on the fly-over.
