Protest against foreign liquor shops, women blocked the National Highway at Harina in South Tripura District

Women folk of Harina and Thaibung villages resorted to a road-blocked movement on the National Highway near Harina Health Sub-centre in Sabroom protesting against opening a Foreign Liquor Shop. They were alleging that a foreign liquor shop in a deeply populated area would destroy the peaceful environment of the area.

Many women came down on the National Highway and blocked the road. The movement caused a traffic problem as hundreds of cars got stranded on both sides. Receiving the information police rushed to the spot and talked to the agitators and assured to take up the matter with the higher authorities and the road blockade was withdrawn.
