The Indian Meteriological Department (IMD) has predicted delayed monsoon this year because of natural weater conditions. According to the IMD the traditional south-western monsoon is expected to hit Kerala on June 7, that is today and it will take three more days to arrive in Tripura and till this time the current heat wave will continue. During the past five years between 2018 and 2022 the monsoon had entered the state in time though only on two occasions the monsoon had entered the state earlier than usual , on May 29.
But the IMD forecasts on rainfall this year is dire as it is quite on cards that in northeastern states this year the general rainfall due to southwestern monsoon will be 95% less than in previous years. This is will be catastrophically less than usual annual rainfall. Even during the pre-monsoon period which begins from March this year the general rainfall was 61% less than in previous years. In April the rainfall was 85% less and in May the same was 50% less than normal rainfall . All this augurs ill for agriculture and allied activities and production of agriculture and horticulture may be very adversely affected. According to IMD sources there may not be any rainfall in the state as a result of monsoon till June 10.
