Tension in Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh, tribal houses attacked

The situation in Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh is gradually becoming tense due to growing violence between different ethnic groups. The latest incident took place on June 1 when a group of reheated people attacked the residents of Tablachari of Matiranga under Jhagracharri District. The group of 60 to 70 persons attacked the village and totally gutted the houses of seven families and the properties were looted.

Villagers alleged that Ajijul of Hazipara ed the attack and the local people could not resist as they were carrying guns and other weapons. The incident revived the memories of the 1980s when repeated such incidents forced thousands of tribals to seek shelter in India.

It is learned that the Indian authority is also aware of the developments in CHT and alerted the Border Security forces along the border.
