In a new twist to the troubled inner politics of BJP, the new minister for sports and youth affairs, social welfare and social education Tinku Roy now faces the stark prospect of disqualification from the assembly for having filed a false affidavit about his educational qualification and concealed a criminal case against him at the time of filing nomination for the polls. This allegation was made by Ranjan Sinha, former ‘Mandal’ president of BJP in Chandipur, Kailasahar and candidate for ‘Tipra Motha’ in the last assembly election, in an interaction with the media in Agartala Press Club.

Basing his allegations on replies to his RTI query and copies of FIR filed with West Agartala police station , Ranjan Sinha said that in his affidavit mandatorily filed along with the nomination form under rule 33 of representation of peoples act , Tinku Roy had claimed to have passed HS (+2) examination from the fake ‘Board of Secondary Education Madhya Bharat Gwalior’ in the year 2004.

“The information given by Tinku Roy is absolutely false and baseless as no Board under the banner of Board of Secondary Education Madhya Bharat Gwalior’ exists as per records of the government of Madhya Pradesh as well as according to the ministry of education of the government of India” said Ranjan Sinha. He stated that the CBI had recorded two specific cases under direction of the Allahabad high court and in the course of investigation it was revealed that the so-called “Board of Secondary Education Madhya Bharat Gwalior’ was fake and had no authority to issue any commendation or certificate. The CBI SP (Dehradun) had addressed a letter to the Assam chief secretary on July 9 2019 requesting him to take action against all those who had produced certificates issued by the Gwalior Board as the same were fake and unauthorized. The minister Tinku Roy had done the same while filing nomination and affidavit.

Ranjan Sinha said that the matter had been brought to the notice of election commission before the last assembly polls demanding cancellation of nomination but no action was taken.

Apart from this, Tinku Roy also concealed a fact that a FIR under sections 147,148,427,380,436 and 326 had been filed with the west Agartala police station by the editor-owner of daily ‘Pratibadi Kalam’ newspaper Anal Roychowdhury on September 8 2021 when Tinku Roy, accompanied by other BJP leaders like Papiya Dutta and Rajeev Bhattacharjee had vandalised and ransacked the office of the newspaper . As per election law this should have been mentioned in the nomination paper as well as by informing public through notifications in three daily newspapers and TV channels. “I demand that immediate cognizance of the matter be taken by the speaker as well as by the election commission and the election of Tinku Roy be set aside from Chandipur (No-52) constituency besides drawing criminal proceedings against him’ said Ranjan Sinha.
