Former Minister and CPI(M) leader Bidhubhusan Malakar breathed his last

Former Minister and a senior CPI(M) leader Bidhubhusan Malakar breathed his last in the house of his father-in-law at Kamalpur on Wednesday morning. He was 79. He was survived by his wife, three daughters and a son. Mintu Chandra Das, divisional secretary of the CPI(M) told the reporters that he went to his in-law's house three days ago. On Wednesday morning he fell down in the bathroom and suffered a severe heart attack. He was immediately taken to Kamalpur Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.

Bidhubhusan Malakar who was known for his simplicity was elected as MLA from Pabiacherra Constituency for the first time in 1978 and continued to represent the constituency for several terms till 2013. He served as a Minister for the Department of Social Services and Social Education for two and half years.

A pall of gloom descended on the area as a large number of people gathered in his house. Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha condoled the death of the former minister.
