A massive trouble erupted today over proposed creation of a Ward office of AMC in Thakur Prabhat Chandra Roy Sarani in Krishna Nagar area close to the site of now-removed ward office of AMC. Sources said that the plot of land where the proposed ward office is to be built there is a park under the name of late leader and royal scion Prabhat Chandra Roy. The children of the area always play about in the area though the land of the park is actually government land. There is also a statue of late Prabhat Roy, father of retired senior police officer Kisore Roy and incumbent councillor Gautami Roy.

Recently the AMC authority had planned to build a ward office close to the park ,keeping the park intact to shift the present office from a rented house . But as the work began Councillor Gaumtami Roy organized tribal people of the area against the move, putting fear in their hearts that the government is planning to do away with the park , only open place for playing by children in the congested area. As the workers began setting up bricks and rods for the proposed ward office on the border of the park a large number of ST people, mostly outsiders settled here, launched a sit-in strike with slogan shouting against the proposed setting up of the ward office.

Shortly after receiving information about the sit-in and tension the police personnel from West Agartala police station reached the area and tackled the agitated people . Work on the site was stopped but sources in AMC said that the proposed ward office will in no wahy impinge on the land of the park and there will be no problem. Sources said that the trouble had actually been created by the former Congress and now ‘Tipra Motha’ councillor Gautami Roy and she will be spoken to over the issue.
