In view of the incidents of terrorism and violence following the declaration of assembly election results, the Tripura High Court took up a case in public interest on the initiative of senior advocate Porushottam Ray Barman yesterday. A division bench of Chief Justice (Acting) T Amarnath Gaur and Justice Arindam Lodh asked the state government to file counter affidavit within four weeks in the public interest case. It is to be noted that on March 9, senior lawyer Purushottam Roy Barman in the division bench led by the Chief Justice (acting) drew the attention of the High Court regarding the post-election violence and terrorism and appealed to take up the public interest case on its own accord. The application was made in the presence of senior advocates Sankar Dev and Haribal Debnath. Following this plea, Chief Justice (Acting) T Amarnath Gaur asked the senior counsel to submit detailed information on post-election violence and terrorism to the Registrar General. Accordingly, on March 13, senior lawyer Purushottam Roy Barman filed detailed information and evidence of post-election violence and terrorism in the High Court. About 1000 incidents of violence and terrorism related to various dailies, pen drive with video footage, copies of FIR, various pictures of violence and terrorism etc. submitted.

Yesterday, the High Court accepted a public interest case and directed the state government to inform the court that no further incidents of violence and terrorism should take place and what steps have been taken to take necessary measures.
